How It Works
- Request. You give your area, the type of investigation and a safe way and time to contact you.
- Match. Your request goes to independent investigators suited to the job, with your permission.
- Quote. Investigators contact you to discuss the case privately and give a price.
- Compare. You check scope, hours, operatives, reporting and PSIRA registration side by side.
- Hire. You hire the investigator you choose, or nobody. There is no obligation.
- Investigate. The investigator does the work and reports back to you.
Share case details with the investigator directly, not through the first form.
Common Investigations
- Infidelity. Surveillance and checks to confirm or rule out an affair.
- Surveillance. Watching a person or place and recording what happens, with photos and logs.
- Tracing. Finding people who have moved, disappeared or owe money.
- Screening. Verifying identity, records, qualifications and history before you hire, rent or sign.
- Business. Fraud, theft, insurance claims and due diligence on companies and people.
- Digital. Lawful examination of phones and computers, and help with scams, sextortion and blackmail.
What Investigators Can and Cannot Do
- Can. Watch and photograph people in public places, search public records, interview witnesses and trace people.
- Cannot. Tap phones, hack accounts or devices, trespass, or get bank, phone or medical records without consent or a court order.
- Registration. Private investigators must be registered with PSIRA. Ask for the registration number and check it.
- Evidence. Lawfully gathered evidence can support a legal case, but only a court decides what it accepts.
An offer to do something unlawful is a reason to walk away, and can expose you to criminal liability too.

Request a Private Investigation QuoteWhat to Include in Your Request
- Your first name and a safe way to contact you.
- Your city or area.
- The type of investigation you need.
- A safe time to call, and whether it is safe to call, email or WhatsApp.
- A one-line description, if you want to add one.
Do not send ID documents, passwords, intimate images or evidence through the form.
Availability
Availability depends on your area, the type of work and how urgent it is. Investigators are independent and decide which cases they take on, so not every request can be matched. Most investigators discuss the case with you before giving a firm price.
Comparing Investigators
Whoever you consider, compare like with like:
- Registration. A valid PSIRA registration number for the investigator and the business.
- Scope. What will be done, for how many hours or days, and by how many operatives.
- Reporting. Written report, photos, video and time-stamped logs, and when you get them.
- Method. How they will stay within the law, including POPIA.
- Costs. Hourly or fixed fee, retainer, travel, mileage and any court attendance fees.
- Confidentiality. How they store your information and who sees it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this service work?
You send one short request with your area, the type of investigation and a safe way to contact you. Independent private investigators suited to the job can contact you with availability and prices. You compare and choose, or hire nobody.
Are you a private investigation agency?
No. We do not carry out investigations and we do not employ investigators. Independent investigators quote and do the work.
How much does a private investigator cost?
Published South African prices put hourly rates at roughly R500 to R2,000, a single day of surveillance from about R6,500 and a cheating spouse investigation at roughly R6,300 to R25,000. Travel, hours and the number of operatives set the final price.
Is hiring a private investigator legal?
Yes. Private investigators must be registered with PSIRA and must work within the law, including POPIA. They may not intercept calls, hack accounts or get bank or phone records without consent or a court order.
Will my enquiry stay private?
Your enquiry is shared only with investigators suited to your request, after you agree. Keep the first message short and do not send ID documents, passwords, intimate images or evidence through the form.
Can an investigator guarantee results?
No. A good investigator can tell you what is realistic, but nobody can promise a particular finding or that evidence will be accepted in court.
How many quotations should I compare?
Two or three written quotations based on the same scope, hours and reporting are usually enough to see a fair price.
